Youth Parliament Initiative Engages Next Generation

The National Youth Parliament initiative has successfully engaged over 100,000 young citizens aged 16-25 in democratic processes, providing them with direct input into policy-making and governance decisions.

The program, now in its second year, allows youth representatives from every district to participate in mock parliamentary sessions, debate real policy issues, and present recommendations to actual lawmakers. Several youth-proposed initiatives have been adopted into official legislation.

Youth Affairs Secretary Amit Verma explained, 'Young people are not just the future of democracy – they are active participants today. Their fresh perspectives and digital-native thinking have already improved several government programs.'

Notable youth-led initiatives include a mental health awareness campaign that reached 5 million students, a digital literacy program for rural areas, and environmental conservation projects that have planted 2 million trees.

The program has also established youth advisory committees in every government ministry, ensuring young voices are heard in policy development. International observers have praised the initiative as a model for youth engagement in democratic governance.

Participants report increased civic knowledge and political engagement, with 70% expressing interest in pursuing careers in public service or policy-making.
